Recently, CSG EHV Power Transmission Company successfully led the development of a flexible DC converter valve equipped with 6.5kV/3kA IGBT (insulated gate bipolar transistor). The equipment passed a new product technical appraisal organized by the China Machinery Industry Federation, with an expert review committee unanimously confirming that its overall performance has reached an internationally leading level.
Beyond its space-saving design, the equipment offers significant advantages in energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Compared to the soft direct converter valve equipped with 4.5kV/3kA IGBT, it reduces power loss by 23%. For a 5GW converter station, this translates to an annual electricity savings of approximately 40 million kWh and a direct economic benefit exceeding 20 million yuan ($2.76 million). With broad application prospects, the technology is set to play a key role in large hydropower stations, new energy bases, and offshore wind power flexible DC transmission projects. Its deployment will strongly support the development of new power systems and contribute to the realization of the "dual carbon" strategic goal.
