Two electric buses provided by Pluz Energía Perú SAA and Pluz Soluciones Perú SAC were officially put into operation recently in Aguas Calientes (Hot Water Town) and the Machu Picchu Scenic Area in the Machu Picchu District of Urubamba Province, Cusco Region. The buses are expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 40 tons annually.
In December 2024, Pluz Energía Perú partnered with local tourism transport operator Consettur to launch an electric bus rental service, along with the installation of supporting charging infrastructure. Upon the buses' arrival in Machu Picchu, a professional team conducted driver and maintenance training and completed the commissioning of the vehicles and charging stations.
These two fully electric buses offer significant cost savings — about 1.49 Peruvian soles ($0.4) per kilometer compared to fossil fuel-powered buses used in the scenic area. Each bus operates nine round trips per day over an 18-kilometer route, saving roughly 241.38 soles per day ($65.47) per vehicle.
